PORTLAND COASTGUARD CO-ORDINATE MUD RESCUE OFF LULWORTH COVE

Portland Coastguard today co-ordinated the rescue of a 36 year old woman who had become stuck in mud on the east side of Lulworth Cove, Dorset. The call was received at 11:34 hrs from Dorset Fire and Rescue, reporting that a woman was stuck in mud up to her thighs. Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Officers, Weymouth RNLI inshore lifeboat, Coastguard Rescue helicopter Rescue 104 and Dorset Ambulance were sent to this remote corner of the cove. The lifeboat was used to transport specialist personnel from the fire service to the scene. She was eventually released by using high pressure water jets. This was good example of joint emergency services working together on a remote part of the Jurassic coast. Portland Coastguard Watch Officer Roger Hoare said: “Walkers should enjoy our coastline but be aware that there are hidden dangers, particularly after recent heavy rains. If you’re heading out check time and tides and make sure you know where to take extra care.” -Ends-   Notes to Editors
