SEARCH FOR MISSING FERRY PASSENGER OFF DOVER

A search is underway this morning for a missing ferry passenger who was last seen mid-Channel.

Dover Coastguard was contacted just after 1am this morning to reports of a man overboard from a ferry traveling from Calais to Dover.

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat from Dover was sent to the scene, and was assisted by a Royal Navy warship that was in the area at the time. The search and rescue helicopter from RAF Wattisham was also sent to the scene.

Dover Coastguard is currently coordinating the search involving the lifeboat and the Royal Navy vessel, which is still ongoing at this time. Kent Police have been informed.

UPDATE: 05:55 Tuesday 21st May

As much of the search area as possible has been investigated by units on scene. Search stood down.
