STUCK GIRL RESCUED AS TIDE RISES

Milford Haven Coastguard was this afternoon alerted to a 9 year old girl who had her foot wedged in the rocky sea defences in Aberaeron beach, with a fast in-coming tide.
Milford Haven tasked the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team to the scene and requested the Newquay RNLI inshore lifeboat to launch. The Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance service were also on scene.
When the lifeboat reached the girl, she was barely visible from the surface. A brave young crewman from the lifeboat took the immediate decision to jump into the water and get a view of what was going on, he then cut her stuck wellington boot to release her.
Milford Haven Coastguard Watch Manager, Roger Reed said
This frightening incident demonstrates to all parents how quickly a fun day playing at the beach could have turned into a tragedy. It is essential that you make yourself aware of the tides and how quickly they come in.
In this instance the crewman’s bravery undoubtedly saved the girls life. The young lady is now safe and well, but shocked by the whole event.
