UK Coastguard were contacted by Dyfed Powys Police this afternoon reporting a man stuck up to his shins in quick sand near Patch Gwbert.

Gwbert and Cardigan Coastguard Rescue Teams arrived on scene, the Police and Fire Service also attended. The tide was rising and the man was sinking deeper into the sand.

Gwbert Coastguard Rescue Team have specialist mud and quick-sand technicians who were able to use their rescue equipment to safety extract the man from the sand. He was safely recovered with no further medical treatment required.

Ieuan Williams, Maritime Operations Officer for the UK Coastguard said,

'If you become stuck in quick sand or mud our advice is always the same; stay calm, try and spread your weight as much as possible and avoid moving.  Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.  Anybody trapped should also discourage other well-meaning members of the public from attempting to rescue them because without the proper equipment they could become stuck too.’
