UK and French Coastguards work together to save unwell fisherman at sea (with footage)

At around 11am yesterday (14 May) Falmouth Coastguard Operations Centre received a call from MRCC Cross Corsen reporting an unwell fisherman on the French fishing vessel 'Connemara' 40nm from the Isles of Scilly.

A French Doctor was put through to the 20m fishing vessel and recommended that the seaman should be airlifted as soon as possible.  Falmouth Coastguard, in close liaison with the French Coastguard, immediately sent the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at Newquay to the location.

The fisherman was airlifted to the Derriford Hospital, Plymouth..

Helicopter Captain Dave Crimmen, said:  'Yesterday we provided assistance to a French mariner who needed our help. We worked closely with MRCC Cross Corsen to quickly and safely perform this medical evacuation and we hope he makes a swift recovery.'
